Derby Day: Manchester City Women 1 – 0 Manchester United Women

A Day of Records

A day of  many firsts as the two Mancunian clubs meet FA Women's Super League for the first time; a game   with an record attendance of more than 31,000.

This was the second derby of the opening weekend for the 2019-20 season FA Women's Super League season. This game saw Manchester City Women up against their local rivals, Manchester United Women; who recently achieved promotion after only one season in the FA Women's Championship.

In a game that did highlight some promise from the Red Devils, who recorded 9 attempts on goal, despite only having 37% possession in comparison to City's 11 attempts, the game was won by their more experienced counter part. It could be said the home side came swinging,  and that apply a high press immediately after the break was the turning point in the game.

Sealing the win for the Citizens was Scotland international, Caroline Weir, who like Chelsea's Bethany England,  scored a worldie, giving them the first win of the campaign at home.
