Bremen lose at home
The away side, SGS Essen, grabbed their first win of the season after successfully defeating Werder Bremen, who are yet to win their first.
Bremen were on the back foot after only four minutes. SGS Essen’s Jill Baijings put her team in the lead converted from the edge of the box.
It took up until the 33rd minute for Bremen to come close when, midfielder/striker ,Stephanie Goddard, header was parried away to safety.
The game was quite stale and not much occurred up until 20 minutes had been played in the second half. Goddard, who came close to leveling the score, headed the ball into the back of her own net whilst attempt to defend a set piece and doubled the oppositions lead (63′).
It can be said this birthed new life into the Essen but seven minutes later, young Forward, Jasmin Sehan pulled one back for Werder Bremen and this too was a header.
The final goal came from one of Essen’s newest signings, Greek international, Eleni Markou, who joined from Apollon Ladies FC in Cyprus.
