England head coach keen to fulfill GB dream

In a conversation with BBC Sport, Phil Neville mentioned that managing Great Britain at next year’s Olympics is still a “massive ambition” of his. He continued by saying:

“Whether you’re an England manager or a manager from one of the four nations, that’s still going to be one of the toughest things to do, to pick 18 players [for the Team GB squad].“It’s one that I was excited to do and now it’s obviously a clean slate and hopefully, I’ll get the opportunity to do it.”

It is still unclear who will be the GB coach for the Olympics. If it is Neville, this could be one of his last contributions in women’s football at the national level with Sarina Wiegman to succeed in September 2021, two months after his tenure as head coach ends.

50-year-old Sarina Wiegman has signed a four-year deal with The Football Association (FA) to become the new head coach of England. Weigman, who has led the highly successful Netherlands team, spearheaded a Dutch side that won the 2017 European Championships and the 2019 World Cup final, where they were the runners-up.
