Dutch Keeper wins historic award
Sari Van Veenendaal, who now plays for Atletico Madrid after leaving Arsenal in the summer, has made history as being the first recipient of the first Best Goalkeeper award.
The 29 year old did highlight how important of a step this was and how this growth can help. She recently won the Golden Glove award and has won the European Championship as part of the 2017 Netherlands squad.
At club level she has won a trophy at each of her previous tenures, FC Utrecht, FC Twente and Arsenal; where she won two FA Women’s Continental League Cups and the Women’s FA Cup.
Missing out on the trophy were nominees Hedvig Lindahl of Vfl Wolfsburg and Christiane Endler of Paris St Germain.
