PSG 1 – 2 Chelsea (2-3 agg)
Though they lost the match, last year’s Women’s Super League champions managed to score a last minute goal and secure their place in the Women’s Champions League semi-final.
Not too much happened in the first 30 minutes of the game but PSG began to get some joy on the wings, creating a few close calls for Chelsea. In similar fashion, Chelsea did come close in the last 10 minutes of the first half through Ji So-yun and Ramona Bachmann trying to link up.
However, it was PSG who got of to a better start in the second half as 23 year old Kadidiatou Diani latched onto Ashley Lawrence’s ball into the box and the French forward slotted it away after only 2 minutes.
PSG continued to put on the pressure and they were rewarded shortly after scoring their first in their great start to the second half. In the 56th minute, Chelsea keeper, Ann- Katrin Berger makes a mistake and the ball slips into the back of her own net though there was not pressure following the home team’s corner.
This was perhaps the defining moment for Emma Hayes’ Chelsea as the game looked set to go to extra time since it looked likeChelsea would not be able to muster up any clear cut chances.
With the game coming to a close and a series of substitutions Chrlsre began to apply pressure on the French team and it certainly paid off. Midfielder, Maren Mjelde found her self at the back post and also at the end of Karen Carney’s ball into the box injury time; the Norwegian put the ball into the back of the net, sealing the ever-crucial away goal.
