The away side lost 3-0 to Manchester United Women

The game which took place on Sunday, at Leigh Sports Village, saw the Charlton Athletic 1-0 down before half-time as former Juventus player, Katie Zelem, sweetly struck the ball past Katie Startup from the edge of the box. Alex Greenwood provided the assist.

After repeated efforts off the bar by Jess Sigsworth, she managed to get onto the end of a rebounded attempt from Lizzie Arnot, who also struck the bar, and volley the ball in for a goal.

The final goal came from Arnot, tapping in another rebound, but this time from a shot.

Though this was the outcome Manchester United did find it difficult to put away their chances, as did Charlton:

“I think we made it difficult for Man United to create chances,” said Bryan.

“The girls worked really hard for one another and we managed to restrict them to efforts from outside the box. We didn’t really let them create much in and around the wide areas, which is probably where they’re strongest.

“We were a little bit unlucky not to take one of our chances, but if you don’t do that, when you play against a team with their quality, they will punish you. And that’s what they did.
